Kopanitsa (also gankino), Bulgarian 11/8: eleven eighths grouped 2+2+3+2+2 — five beats with the long one in the middle, quick-quick-slow-quick-quick. It is the showpiece of Bulgarian wedding bands, often taken blisteringly fast. The tapan booms on all five beats; the long third beat is the dance's pivot. Listen for the bar turning on that middle beat, like a dancer changing direction. Practice: learn it as rachenitsa + 2+2 (the first seven eighths are a rachenitsa) and stitch them together.
